Morning Thoughts 5-24-14

I always want to write but never quite know where to start. A friend advised me to just start writing – any and everything that came to mind.

Quite frankly, what’s been on my mind as of late is this issue in Nigeria #BringBackOurDaughters. It boggles my mind that over 250 young women and girls could be abducted the way they were in this day and age. I’ve also started to watch the show Game of Thrones and it reminds me of something that could happen in that show and not in real life. Why is this still an issue? Why are human beings so violent? Why does it seem that every new series, movie and television show begs the answer to the question: Is man destined to destroy himself?

As I sit here, sipping my coffee and pondering this question, I thank God for the hope I have in Jesus Christ. Being inundated with horrible news stories and minute after minute accounts of murder, rape, and plunder (again – are we in Medieval Times?) it’s so easy to become disheartened and even depressed.

I just opened my email and received a Mashable article about “10 Wildlife Adventures You Have To See Before They Go Extinct.” Why is that even happening?

No one cares enough to do what seriously needs to be done. There is too much red tape in this day and age. We have red taped ourselves into a Global Warming crisis. No matter what we do now we can’t reverse this. Why aren’t there protests in the street? We have effectively killed our planet. This makes me so sad. This is why we (human beings) can’t have nice things. We destroy things. Why? The evil that is running rampant in the world. You may not believe what I believe but this is my explanation for all the strife, anger and violence in the world. The enemy is here. Polluting minds with greed, envy and lusts. I took Josh to see X-Men yesterday and before the movie came on a full trailer for the movie “SEX TAPE” was shown. The premise of the movie depicts a couple who’s sex life has gone south and they try to spice it up with making a sex tape that inadvertently gets sent out to all of their friends and family and they go through great lengths to get it back. But why did my 11 year old son need to see that? SEX has been become so perverse. Nothing sacred about it at all anymore. Kind of like in the Game of Thrones… I would like to point out here what happened to Sodom and Gomorrah. These cities had come to the height of sin, if it can even be measured. What’s described in the bible is taking place now. How soon can we anticipate God’s literal interference? Soon. Will you be ready?

I do want to point out that I absolutely have hope and faith in God imparting His Spirit into man’s heart and making him new.

Come Get Your Role Models!

“Your New Role Models” that’s what the newest cover of VIBE magazine says. It depicts “reality” stars on the front cover, scantily clad and oozing sex appeal.

Black women are already portrayed as having an attitude and being rude, catty and obnoxious. Reality TV shows such as the ones these “ladies” are on do nothing but add fuel to that stereotypical fire. I believe that anyone who has a large audience has some kind of responsibility to society to be a “good” role model.

But for half a million dollars I’m guessing standards can be shifted and morals hidden to make for “good tv.”  When is enough going to be enough? What won’t we be willing to do for money?

Why go to college and work hard when we can bare it all, act a fool and get paid near millions?

I know some friends who watch “reality tv” and I’m not here to judge. I just want to know what do we tell our daughters?  Nieces? Cousins? God-Daughters? It’s okay to watch and be entertained but you better not act like this?! It’s okay and funny when other people are fighting in clubs over men but you better not do it?! It’s okay to watch this in our home but don’t you dare act that way toward your sisters and friends!? We need to practice what we preach. WE are their greatest examples and role models.

It may seem like harmless fun but it has bigger implications than you may think.

What happened to the days when respect was better than attention?

Come get your role models…because I don’t want ’em!

Happy Thanksgiving?

So, I’m extremely grateful for having come this far in the year. God is so good. I’ve had ups and downs and He has surely been there for me. I don’t have a lot but I have enough. Now, I didn’t come to pacify you with pretty pictures of turkeys and full tables. I can’t. Not with so much lack in the world. Have a Happy Thanksgiving but please be mindful of those who do not have. If you can, invite someone over or bring a plate of food downstairs to that homeless man you pass everyday. No matter how small, there is ALWAYS something you can do. God bless you.

God help us to help others,

Kim Kardashian is Engaged and Other Stuff I Could Care Less About

So, Kim Kardashian is engaged. -__-

I really fail to understand why we give these “celebrity” relationships so much attention. I think that the world forgets that the divorce rate is the highest among these people. They marry like the regular world dates. Six months of dating, Kim? How did your other relationships work out? What makes you think this one will be different? Not to mention that you are one of the worse role models ever. Why go to school? When girls look at you they see how good you did using your body. They wonder what a “leaked sex tape” can do for them, too! It doesn’t help that society idolizes you for your…efforts.

So forgive me for not congratulating you, Kim. I will completely take this back when you are married for 10 years to this man…not another one.

Waiting for your breakup or infidelity story,

So, Osama Bin Laden is Dead and You’re Happy.

Late last night myself and the rest of Twitter waited anxiously for the President’s big announcement to break. Amid the jokes about President Obama breaking into Donald Trump’s air time (the announcement interrupted the ending of Celebrity Apprentice) there was a nervous undertone of what was about to go down. What had happened? A Sunday “Breaking News” announcement was very rare. With the atmosphere for death and destruction being at an all time high already we could only pray for the best. After an hour of waiting and falling asleep nearly three times the President walked to the podium and declared that we had captured and killed Osama Bin Laden. Of course, this news broke on Twitter before Mr. President could say a word. Like many others I was shocked and amazed. This man, who had eluded President Bush for so long, was finally captured.

Was I happy, though?

Truthfully. No. The death of no one brings me pleasure.

Also, being who I am, I think about the bigger picture. What would this mean for America? Was Al-Qaeda making plans to retaliate as the President spoke? As I pondered these thoughts the response by Christian Twitter was questionable. Retweets of postings exclaiming the gladness and goodness of this man’s death. Is any death without Jesus good? What were we celebrating here? I heard that bars were giving out free champagne and the chants of USA! USA! USA! could be heard for avenues. But, what were we celebrating? Will this end terror? Or, as a quote on Twitter said, give Osama more power as a martyr? Also, what is being hidden from us?

Proverbs 27:17 states ‎”Do not rejoice when your enemy falls, And do not let your heart be glad when he stumbles; Lest the LORD see it, and it displease Him, And He turn away His wrath from him.”

It’s so easy to be swept up in the world. Gas prices have skyrocketed. Alabama has been flattened. Japan has been crushed by tsunamis. Unemployment is still high. The list goes on and on. But we need not be so desperate for something to be joyful about that we celebrate a man’s life ending. No matter what he was responsible for. As Christians, who are to have the mind of Christ, we should not want any to perish. No matter how hard it is to love. We are to operate in love always. Without conditions. So, I pray that before your celebration continues you stop and really think about what it is you are celebrating.

God bless you,

Aisha Antoinette

“If you love those who love you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners love those who love them.  And if you do good to those who are good to you, what credit is that to you? Even sinners do that.  And if you lend to those from whom you expect repayment, what credit is that to you? Even sinners lend to sinners, expecting to be repaid in full.  But love your enemies, do good to them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then your reward will be great, and you will be children of the Most High, because he is kind to the ungrateful and wicked.  Be merciful, just as your Father is merciful.”  ~Luke 6:32-36
